About
About First Watch Construction
First Watch is run by William Hart, and William is on site from day one. That's not a marketing line — it's the operating model. One job runs at a time, the owner stands on it every full workday, and the person who answers your call is the person who was on your project that morning. The name comes from watch-standing: the first watch is the one where you prove you'll actually show up. That's the reputation we're building this company on, job by job.
Who we help
Emerald Coast homeowners improving a property they intend to keep — primary homes, and the second homes and rentals that work hard every summer. Most of the people who call us have a specific project in mind and one specific worry: they've already been burned once by a contractor who took a deposit and went quiet, or watched a start date slide for months. If that's you, everything about how we work was designed for exactly that worry — a written scope, a written start date, daily updates, and a final walk-around with you.
Who we don't help
Bargain-hunters shopping for the lowest number regardless of how the work gets done. On this coast, the cheap version of a fence, a paint job, or a bathroom fails early — shallow posts lean, unprepped paint peels, covered-up subfloors rot. We do the coastal version, and we put the reasons in writing all over this site.
What we deliberately don't do
Say it plainly:
- Roofing or roof repair
- Window replacement
- Exterior door replacement
- Structural framing or load-bearing changes
- Additions
That's not a limitation we're embarrassed about — it's focus. Those trades deserve a specialist who does them every day, and if your project needs one, we'll tell you at the estimate and point you toward the right kind of contractor. What we do instead, we do completely: bathroom remodeling, fencing, painting, decks, flooring, landscaping, and irrigation.
Why the environment is our obsession
Every contractor here claims quality and communication. Very few will explain what sand does to a post hole, what salt air does to a hinge, or what humidity does to the plywood under your tile. We will — starting with why fences lean in our sand and what humidity does to a bathroom subfloor. Building for this coast is a discipline, and the discipline is the product. Curious what your project would involve? Start with what drives cost or the FAQ.
