You clicked this hoping for a number, so let's be straight about why there isn't one here. Two bathrooms with the same square footage can land far apart in cost, and any figure we printed would be wrong for your house. What we can do is show you exactly what moves the number, so you can read your own project before anyone quotes it.
What pushes the cost up
Square footage and layout. More floor, more tile, more time. A cramped layout can cost more than a simple large one because everything is harder to work around.
Tile and fixture selections. This is the widest swing in any bathroom. A standard vanity and porcelain tile sit at one end; imported tile and a custom glass enclosure sit at the other.
Moving plumbing or wiring. Keeping the toilet, sink, and shower where they are is the single biggest money-saver in remodeling. Every relocated drain adds work below the floor.
Subfloor repair. This is the coastal one. Gulf humidity works on bathroom subfloors year-round, and a large share of the bathrooms we open have soft decking near the tub or toilet. We repair it before covering it — see our post on what humidity does to a bathroom subfloor.
Site access. A third-floor condo bathroom takes longer than a ground-floor home.
What keeps the cost down
Keeping the existing layout. Standard, in-stock materials. A sound subfloor. Clear selections made before work starts — changes mid-job cost more than decisions made at the pre-construction meeting.
